Writing Prompt: Falling Apart

I’ll keep this one brief, because today’s writing prompt is something I want you to feel more than think about. Look at the picture of Mr. Potato Head. Really look at it. How does it make you feel? What does it inspire? Laughter? Sadness? Dread?

Okay, now add to that the opening line, “I’m falling apart.” See where it takes you.

I’ll share mine in the comments if you share yours!

  1. I’m falling apart. It’s embarrassing, really: my joints were supposed to last longer than this. I paid good money for them. And now here I am, walking across the quad after my last lecture, my left hand in my right, my left arm dragging on the ground. My ankles will probably make it across the parking lot, but I have doubts about my right hip. Every third step or so, it wobbles out of its socket and I have to shimmy it back in. I must be quite a sight. I’ve seen it before, this kind of mechanical failure, but in a professor of robotics it’s ridiculous. I should have known better. I should have checked the parts. I should have built my own damned body.
