Christmas Specials for Awesome People

Very British Problems, Season Two Episode One: “Very British Problems at Christmas”

This one is on Netflix, and if you haven’t discovered Very British Problems yet, you need to–especially if you’re an introvert and/or socially awkward (two terms that apparently define the British identity, according to the show). It’s narrated by Harry Potter‘s own Molly Weasley (Julie Walters) and features a lot of amazing actors/comedians, including Stephen Mangan and James Corden.

Every Christmas episode of Bob’s Burgers, but especially “The Last Gingerbread House on the Left” and “Bob Rest Ye Merry Gentle-mannequins” (seasons 7 and 3, respectively).

Yeah, Bob’s Burgers is no longer free on Netflix or Amazon, but to me, it’s totally worth buying. And if you have cable, you can access the FoxNow app (channel? whatsit?) on your Roku and watch recent episodes–this year’s Christmas special was amazing.

Futurama: “Xmas Story” and “Xmas Story 2”

Another one that’s no longer available for free (thanks, Fox–how are you so awful when some of your programming is so amazing?), but again, totally worth the purchase. The first “Xmas Story” is in season two and I think the second is in season three or four–but don’t mix it up with any of their other holiday specials, which are awful. (And I say that as a die-hard fan of the show.)

Rocko’s Modern Life: “Rocko’s Modern Christmas”

Do you remember Rocko? I sure do. I was a huge fan of all things Nickelodeon back in their heyday (before Paw Patrol was even a twinkle in someone’s eye) and though it took a while before I understood a lot of the jokes, Rocko was a definite favorite. “Rocko’s Modern Christmas” tells the tale of a family of Christmas elves who move in across the street from Rocko and are spurned because of the rumors Ed and Bev Bighead spread about them.
